In The Name Of The Father
In the year of 2017 I lost my Father.
In this work I created a series of personal rituals referring to the Jewish custom of washing the body and mourning customs. Through these acts I touch on themes of gender and power relations, but above all – I refer to the painful process of final separation from the man who was my father.
The objects in this work, concrete and metaphorical, are my tools to claim my place in the Jewish mourning ceremonies, which refer mainly to men. The black water, the trimmed hair, the collars and the prostheses are all part of a new and personal ceremony I assembled as part of my personal healing process and as a monument to my father.
